Does your Inner Critic always have something to say?

Perhaps it tells you that you’re not doing enough - or that whatever you do is never quite good enough.

It might criticise your appearance, parenting, relationships or work. It may compare you with other people, replay your mistakes or make you afraid to try something new.

You may already understand where some of this comes from. You might even know that your inner critic is trying to protect you. But that doesn’t necessarily make it easier to live with.

The Inner Critic Clinic gives you a regular space to pause, listen and begin responding differently.

Rather than battling, silencing or trying to “fix” your inner critic, you’ll learn how to approach it with curiosity—and discover what it may need from you.

What is the Inner Critic Clinic?

The Inner Critic Clinic is a live, 45-minute drop-in group session focused entirely on understanding and working with the inner critic.

Each week, we’ll begin with a guided practice. This might include:

  • An Internal Family Systems exercise

  • A short meditation or visualisation

  • A journal prompt

  • A practical reflection

  • A new way of responding to critical thoughts

We’ll then open the space for questions, reflections and optional sharing.

You’re warmly encouraged to participate, but you never have to speak or share anything personal. You’re welcome to listen, reflect privately and take part in whatever way feels right for you.

A place to continue the work

You may have been working through my FREE Meet Your Inner Critic Workbook and found that it raised questions—or helped you recognise something you would like to explore more deeply.

The Inner Critic Clinic is a good place to continue that work.

You can bring a question from the workbook, explore a pattern you’ve noticed, or receive guidance on how to approach an inner critic that feels particularly loud, persistent or difficult to understand.

If you would prefer not to ask your question during the live session, you can submit it in advance.

You don’t need to have completed—or even started—the workbook to attend. No previous knowledge of IFS is required.

Book cover titled 'Meeting Your Inner Critic' with purple and green leaf design and subtitle 'A gentle, practical guide to befriending a part of you that's trying (too hard) to protect you'. Additional text: 'An Internal Family Systems (IFS) Workbook' by Madeline Gibson, the IFS coach.

How the Clinic can help you:

  • Recognise when your inner critic is influencing you

  • Understand what triggers particular critical thoughts or reactions

  • Discover what your inner critic may be trying to protect you from

  • Respond to self-criticism with greater calm and compassion

  • Separate your inner critic’s voice from the truth of who you are

  • Feel less controlled by perfectionism, comparison or fear of failure

  • Develop a more supportive relationship with yourself

  • Put the ideas in the workbook into practice

  • Experience the reassurance of exploring this alongside others

Each session offers a small but meaningful opportunity to relate to yourself differently.

Join every week, or just when you need it

The Inner Critic Clinic is deliberately flexible and accessible.

There is no course to complete and no expectation that you attend every week. You can join regularly, come occasionally or drop in when your inner critic feels particularly active.

Each session stands alone, so you can begin at any time.

Important note about the nature of these sessions

The Inner Critic Clinic is an educational and coaching-based group informed by Internal Family Systems. It is not therapy, group therapy, medical treatment or a substitute for support from a qualified mental-health professional.

The session is intended for gentle self-exploration and personal development. You are always responsible for deciding whether an exercise or topic feels appropriate for you, and you are welcome to pause or opt out at any time.

Because this is a group setting, please share only what feels comfortable. Everyone will be asked to respect the privacy of other participants, although complete confidentiality cannot be guaranteed.

The Clinic is not suitable for urgent or crisis support. If you are experiencing significant distress or are concerned about your safety, please contact an appropriate healthcare professional or crisis service.

Meet your Inner Critic with curiosity

Your inner critic may feel harsh, relentless or impossible to please. But in IFS, we begin with the understanding that it did not develop simply to make your life difficult.

Somewhere along the way, it learned that criticism could protect you.

The Inner Critic Clinic offers a regular space to discover what lies beneath that criticism—and begin building a relationship with yourself based on understanding rather than conflict.

You don’t need to silence your inner critic to feel more free. You can learn to relate to it differently.
